Update: Lost 32 lbs and 29 inches as of 2-2016

My biggest goal in fitness is to reduce belly fat, not for cosmetic reasons, but to live a long healthy life. My annual physical listed me as pre-diabetic and my waist was about 42 inches on my 5'6" frame. My doctor was concerned that this was stress related because it was concentrated in my stomach (Cortisol) and it was dangerous for my heart! I did not want to be listed as "pre" any disease.  It was time for a change.
 
Now... 4 months later (December 2015), my waist is 33 inches. I've lost 9 inches from my waist-line alone and I've never felt better (see photo above).  I have more energy and I'm sleeping through the night, which is HUGE for me.  
 
I am convinced that regular exercise and a balanced diet are the best way to combat belly fat!!  So how do you know if you have too much belly fat?  Place a tape measure around your bare stomach, just above your belly button. Relax, exhale and measure your waist, resisting the urge to suck in your stomach to get a proper measurment.
 
For women, a waist measurement of 35 inches (89 cm) or more indicates an unhealthy concentration of belly fat and a greater risk of problems such as heart disease, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes and premature death! For men, a waist measurement of 40 inches (102 cm) or more is considered cause for concern.
